Default 2500 rear drum stuck inside my rim

ok so i got a 97 2500 and i just bought new rims for the truck so im swapping the old ones off and i got to take the rears off and the passenger side came off fine but the drivers side drum is stuck in the rim.

ive tried using a socket extension and beating the hell out of the drum thru the holes in the rim. but it wont budge. has anyone else ever had this problem??? i dont know what to do the get it out. this rim also was different than all the other steel rims on the truck.

thx in advance matt

Take yourself a big *** hammer, and whack the TIRE, NOT the rim, from the back side. Might take a bit of effort, but, it should jump off. (leave one of the lug nuts threaded on a bit, so it doesn't get away. )

I tried that and nothing. But I don't think i mentioned that they both came off he truck. So I took them to a local tire shop and they tried using a air hammer and its not coming apart. They said I need to cut the rim off or buy a new drum.

did you try spraying them with penetrating oil? sounds like someone forgot to put anti seize or grease between the drum and wheel. have you tried a pry bar?

when i first bought my truck in '09 i had the same problem. i used an 8lb sledge, and it came off in about 5 minutes of hard abuse! of course i used some pb blaster as well.

so the old wheel (and drum) is off?
and you're going to replace the wheel anyway?

****, i'd just buy a new drum.

if you sell the old wheels, then somebody gets a free drum as a bonus. LOL.
