97 ram 5.9 no start but should

Default 97 ram 5.9 no start but should

hi guys,i have a problem dodge.97 5.9 no start has spark and fuel pressure,injection pulse,timing chain seems to be fine.checked with a timing light on number 1 cylinder.if you hold the throttle wide open it back fires and sputers.new cam,crank sensors,cap and rotor.firing order is correct.any help is great.the cat is not plugged either. thanks

What do your spark plugs look like?

The backfire and sputter does sound like a clogged cat.... how did you determine it wasn't plugged?

Is this the first time you are trying to run this motor after you put in the cam? If so do a search here for fuel sync.

hey you, i removed the o2 sensor from the exhaust.and checked for flow out of the tailpipe too.seem pretty good.the spark plugs are new champions.the old ones looked like they were burning fine.i also have a test pcm. no change when i tried it.just for the heck of it i will remove the cat.

merc225hp,it was the cam sensor i changed. the one under the distributor.not the cam shaft.i read an article about worn distributors causing fuel synce problems.but, the injector for cylinder 1 seems to inject at the correct time.
