Oil Pump Question
Morning all,
So, I have my Mega Viper3 tranny from PATC sitting in my garage waiting on me. When I pull my old torque converter out I see signs of my rear main seal leaking. (imagine that!)
So, the question is, since I have to pull my oil pump out anyway, should I go ahead and replace it? (99 ram 1500 4x4 5.9L w/170,000 miles)
And if I do are there any advantages/disadvantages of putting a "high volume" pump vs a standard volume pump? Not much diff in the price of em.
Thanks for comments and opinions all.

In my opinion unless the interior of the engine is clean could cause oil to go to the top of the engine for to long. with 170k on her she is probably not draining back down like a new clean engine. so i personally would go stock. wait for someone with a definite answer.
High volume pump really wouldn't be such a bad plan. I put one on my 170,000 mile motor when I had to be in there anyway....... Kinda makes up for the clearances on a high mileage motor opening up.

Then you and the several others have not read the directions very well.

does a high volume pump just move more volume of oil faster? I have been told that it can pump so fast it sucks the pan dry before the oil can make its was back down the motor. Could we not just put a high pressure pump on instead of a HV pump?
M72-M72HV are both high pressure for a SBM. Watch the vid's from MELLING. They will give you some insite on pressure vs flow vs bleed off.

Nowhere on the directions did I see anything even mentioning a requirement for an upgraded shaft. The only time I saw it mentioned was "check condition", and that was it.
