still transmission problems

alright i found a scan tool from wal mart for 160, what should i do once i have. i checked out shops and they were saying about 90 bucks just to scan it so i figured buy it and split the cost with my friend who needs also.

If you scanner can read data, you want to find where it tells you what O/D is doing..... it will be a yes/no, or on/off kind of thing..... see what it says when you think it should be in O/D.

Also look at what it thinks trans temp is.

i took my truck out to a long road to check all my shifts. i was only get two major shifts. trying everything before spending 160 on a tool i might not need.

at about 45 was the last shift than once got to about 60 it dropped slightly

Ok, so, the only thing you are missing is overdrive then. Could just be the solenoid took a dump?

think? that is in tranny above the filter right? is it hard to replace and would i replace anyhting else?

O/D and TCC solenoids usually come as a set. (on the same bracket....) Gotta drop the valve body to get them. I vaguely remember a thread that someone didn't have to though???? Unsure there..... I would verify that the solenoid is getting power, and that the PCM is grounding it before replacing it though. Creative use of a volt meter, or test light, should do the trick.

If you had one that would show you that data, it would certainly be easier.
