Default still transmission problems

well i recently found a leak from my dipstick grommet (fixed it) my friend filled the tranny with ATF+4 but he over filled by one bottle, could this casue problems? also i get going and now my engine or something is making a rattling sound only when i touch the gas. the tranny also stays at about 3000 rpm instead of the 1500 rpm it was before the problem. any ideas. also looking for a good place to buy a engine and tranny for pretty cheap that either deleivers or is close to utah (only if tranny keeps going)

I quart over full might be a bit much. Check the fluid after driving the truck for a bit, and if it is foamy..... you need to get some of the excess out of there. MonteC (our resident trans guru here.....) suggests that a bit over full is actually a good thing, but, not to the point of the fluid getting air whipped into it.

Sounds like you are missing O/D, and TCC engagement...... or, you have overdrive turned off?

Then somethin' ain't right..... take it somewhere that you have a nice stretch of road, with very little traffic..... From a dead stop, accelerate slowly, and pay close attention to what shifts you get. You should see a drop on the 1-2 shift, another drop on the 2-3 shift, a significant drop on the 3-4 shift, and a little drop when TCC engages. See which ones you get, and let us know.

Is the CEL on by any chance? Trans temp lite??

The torque converter will lock up before O/D if you accelerate slowly.

I would put a scan tool on the truck before condemning anything. Might be something simple. Maybe the computer is seeing something wrong and not allowing o/d.

alright update. my over drive is not working. autozone won't check unless a light is on. i read in my manual if the transmission get too hot the over drive will be disengaged. but now it is not reactivating, how can i fix that? the transmission got really hot when it was leaking and starting smelling like it was burning but once i fixed leak and had it refilled it went away.

Does the O/D Off lite stay on? Do you get TCC engage?

Torque converter clutch. Makes for a direct mechanical conection between engine, and trans, instead of the usual fluid coupling.

If the O/D Off lite is staying on, you may still have some issues...... not getting a CEL I take it? (check engine lite.)
