The majority of questions asked here are. It's just we either over think it, or we're just to lazy to do a search for it since they've been not only asked, but also answered.

THREAD JACK!

I am buying some headers for my rig too. Its a 96 and already has the cold air and cat back flowmaster with the wider pipe. Is there a brand out there NOT to buy? or does it really matter. Ebay has some $109 stainless headers and I do not want to pay $300 for top of the line stuff if it really doesnt matter anyway...

With the flowmaster pipes does that change anything? Are almost all of them direct bolt on? or do I need to worry about long or short etc..

Shortys will be be direct bolt ons. Long tubes will require some fabrication. Your major restriction in your exhaust is where the pipes from each bank go into the cat, right be the front O2 sensor. if you don't do something about that, nothing else is going to make much difference. (and no, hollowing out the cat will not obviate that restriction.)

What you pay for the headers pretty much determines how long they will last. The cheapies have a tendency to crack welds at the flanges..... I would also guess that the 100 dollar 'stainless' headers are a rather low quality of stainless. Pacesetter shorties are a bit more, but, would prolly last longer.

Just to add to what HeyYou said. The eBay headers have clearance issues with the bolts. There a REAL PITA to install. I ended up selling mine before I installed them.

This is what I have been asking on the forums about I think. I want to get headers but unless I address this its all for naught. What Do I need to do to unrestrict it then?

New pacesetter shorties [175$] made a huge difference. It is not raging obvious horsepower, but I do not have to put my foot in it at all or downshift to maintain speed on hills or get the extra speed I need. Best money I have spent so far.

than and it got rid of my annoying, doubleshift at 35...it would shift into 3rd then try to shift right back into second especially if I was on any type of hill. Gone now.
