The buzzards are circling...

I would think those lights all need to come off in 105+ heat. The fans will pull, but the ram air on the highway would definitely be lost. The shroud should still work better than straight on the radiator. It might help to run some foam weatherstripping along the sides and bottom edges of the radiator where the shroud mating surfaces are. I know my shroud doesn't fit really tight on the sides and bottom. Foam weatherstripping should help insure the fans are pulling through the radiator fins, instead of around the sides and bottom, especially if those lights are impeding flow.

What are you using for a fan trigger, temp probe in the rad fins? Where is it located exactly?

Temp sensor in the line to the heater core.

That may well be your problem.

If it's set to turn the fans on after the coolant has already returned from the radiator, then the coolant has gotten too hot already. Get a probe that can go in the radiator, preferably right where the coolant first dumps into the radiator.

my fans came with the screw in temp sensor dual fan kit from Derale. I was thinking the T i plummed in line to the heater core might restrict flow but another member of this sight with a early 90's Dak said he ran his the same way with no problems. Should I pull the sensor (T) out and just run the fans to where they turn on with a toggle or to where they start up as soon as I start the truck up.?

I prefer they turn on when the coolant first entering the radiator is hot. then you know that you are cooling when and where you should be.

Toggles are scary, as what happens when you accidentally forget to turn them on? Always on from truck startup would be better than that.

Honestly though, think about snagging a flex a lite controller, or plumbing your current temp probe into the return line. Somebody has got to make a sensor mount that fits a return tube.

14 bucks for the radiator probe. the probe itself does nothing but hold the thermostat to the radiator.

the probe IS the sensor.. Or, I'm thoroughly confused about what you're sticking into your radiator..
