you aren't very smart, are you?.. mystical temperature reading powers.. hmm..
quoted from http://www.omega.com/prodinfo/rtd.html ...
Resistance Temperature Detectors / RTD / RTDs
What is a Resistance Temperature Detector? Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTD), as the name implies, are sensors used to measure temperature by correlating the resistance of the RTD element with temperature. Most RTD elements consist of a length of fine coiled wire wrapped around a ceramic or glass core. The element is usually quite fragile, so it is often placed inside a sheathed probe to protect it. The RTD element is made from a pure material whose resistance at various temperatures has been documented. The material has a predictable change in resistance as the temperature changes; it is this predictable change that is used to determine temperature.
why don't you tape the probe to the exhaust pipe? that will trigger the fan too... until the tape melts.. or, maybe, use some screws and mount it to the top of your tire, after screwing about four anchor bolts to the tire itself? you could just stick it in your gas tank, with the coiled end stretched out and attached to your coil.. that way is certain to eliminate your problem.. and ours too..

Vdub, I certainly ain't that smart.. I have a long way to go before I would consider myself knowledgeable about these rigs.. that's for absolute certain..
but:
I CAN read directions, and I'm not afraid to ask or search for answers.. I'm not even opposed to experimenting to figure something out if it isn't a critical system I'm messing with..
this dude though? he wants to make a slight and take an air of superiority on an internet message board? first off, he 'plumbs' the floggin' heater core line and thinks THAT will give him an accurate temperature reading, and then argues that his set-up is correct in it's installation.. then he makes a comment about someone (me) thinking a temperature element is some sort of witchcraft, and that the probes sole function is to attach the thermostat to the radiator? ?????????? Thermostat to the radiator? with the probe????
The good thing about this is, I can simply ignore him, and read about his destroying his truck whilst I eat popcorn and drink a beer.. this crap is good entertainment while it storms outside, if nothing else.

What have you done to your truck lately? Btw I run a Derale Dual fan kit which i can buy a rad temp prob for, which does nothing but hold a thermostat to the radiator. Here is a link to another forum , I have a bbq pit to tend to. Peace out foo.
