1996 Dodge Ram 1500 transmission problem and question.
Hi, I am new to this board. Any help with my problem would be great! I have a 96 Dodge 1500. When leaving from a stop in drive, it hesitates and slips as if the trans was in 3 gear or something. Move, jerk etc is what it does. Now, when I put it into 1st gear manually, it operates perfectly. What could be my problem? I was thinking some type of sensor but I am not sure. My guess is that if the problem was something internal that it would do the same thing when I manually have the truck in 1st.
Any help to fix this would be great!
Thanks,
Sheldon

I have seen this particular problem before, the trans is in limp mode for whatever reason. I just don't recall what the solution was. Are you getting any codes? When was the last time the trans fluid/filter was changed? Is the truck over 100K miles? What color is a frogs butt?

Regardless of what the problem is, since you just bought it, you should change all the fluids and filters anyway. This way you'll know they are all up to date. As far as the tranny goes. I would change the fluid(ATF+4) and filter. Adjust the bands also. ANd do not put ANY kind of additive in it.
Oh yea, and remove and clean the Governor solenoid.

Try this and see if you have any stored codes. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...code-list.html
