4.7 to 5.9 swap. SEARCHED!
rRyanek, are you sure about the trans being the same aside from the bellhousing? they dont look to be the same to me. and it is extremely difficult to find info on this. There are NO 02s with a 5.9 i have been able to find.. Can someone please chim in here? I have read articles where people say they have done it. So someone has to have more info...
Actually, I was doing some research and found that the 2003 durango r/t supposedly came with a 5.9 and the 45rfe instead of the 46re. Anyone ever heard of that? I could not verify it, just saw it on some random site as i was researching. Possibly a pcm that could allow it to work? What I dont understand is since my truck has the 45rfe and the TCM controls it instead of the PCM, Is it not possible to just leave that section of the old 4.7 harness in???
The 4.7 uses the 45RFE and the 5.7 HEMI uses the 545RFE.
If you would like to dispute this I have a 2003 FSM waiting on my hard drive.
Im a technician for a Dodge dealer in Colorado, I've seen both transmissions lying on the floor plenty of times, and have taken a few bell housing measurements. They are interchangeable.
I know that 5.7's come with the 545RFE, I was just trying to simplify the explanation for the OP.
You are partially wrong as well. The only difference between the 45FRE and the 545 RFE, is some minor internal changes and a different TCM programming flash. As a matter of fact, the 45RFE can be converted to 545RFE with the addition of a few more clutches and a reflash. Externally, they are the same transmission, and a 45RFE will bolt up to a 5.7 Hemi.

You win.
OT, I've seen that you can change it with only a reflash. Didn't realized you needed more clutches.
