I did a dark grey. It came out nice and isn't as hard to keep clean as black. I just need to paint the damn grill now.

Thanks bro, I'll post my own thread about my build so that I won't hi-jack this thread.

At the OP, a lot of good info and opinions here. For what it's worth, I hooked up with a painter that does some work on the side at his house and after checking out his work, I asked him to paint my truck for $1000, that price includes PPG paint, primer and clear. Black is THE hardest color to get right, because it will show any imperfection you have in the body panels. I also knew going in that it won't be a show quality job but he also laid out exactly what he will do to save on cost. My hood, cab and panels were badly faded from sun exposure but the body was good over all. This allowed for less prep work than a shoddy body panels. My door jams were good as well and I accepted that it wont get sprayed and therer will be a slight color variation, but you have to be really **** about it to notice when the door is opened. As you can see from the picture, the paint job turned out pretty good. It would have been cheaper if I left the chrome bumpers and grille chromed, but I asked him to sand blast the chrome and primer it with some heavy duty flexible primer before painting them black to match. It still came out cheaper than buying replacement bumpers and grilles ready to paint. There are small spots with runs which he will buff out once the paints settles in a few weeks. Overall, for what I paid I couldn't be happier.
Bottom line is, talk to various places and try to find someone local that can do something like that and you will save some money. Just make sure that you do intend to keep the truck like I do....you won't recoup the money you will spend on it, no matter how nice it looks!
