I subscribe to the same philosophy. When I had to replace mine, I went to battery wholesale, and asked for the biggest, meanest battery that would physically fit.

from what i have seen and read the optima batteries can be a bit tricky and you sometimes need a good normal to bring them back to life.

i have an everstart battery in my 81 and it is a pretty tough battery. i had the stereo in my truck on for over 9 hours straight and there was still enough power in it to start my truck and i only paid $20 for mine at the junk yard.
