transfer case swap help

Default transfer case swap help

i have a 97 dodge ram 1400 4x4 with a 5.9l 360. i have a automatic with a np231 transfer case. i was curious i heard u can swap in a 3/4 transfer case cuz they are beefier would anyone know what transfer case would swap right in?? i apologize if this isnt in the right area

3/4 tons (HD) came with the NP241. I think the output shafts are different sizes though...... Would be something to verify before spending money.

well i know they made a 3/4 ton gas with a 360 in it so i figured it would be a direct swap

here is your answer. im going to be doing this swap as well, due to my 4lo not shifting in. took me less than 30 seconds of searching about 5 minutes ago.

i may just replace my transfer case with a 231. if a 241 isnt a direct fit. then im going to for sure swap a 231 back in. due to mine needing replaced. chain is stretched and when u put it in 4 wd. and bind it up chain skips

a local shop here. said its a pain. and said since my transfer is high mileage that my chain prolly has been slapping the case and said it needed completely rebuilt.. and the only local shop that will do it wants like 700 bux to rebuild it

The t-case is actually fairly simple. (as these things go....) Of course the shop is going to want you to go full boat..... they make more money that way. Check prices, see which is cheaper, chain, rebuild kit, used t-case, new t-case, or paying someone else to rebuild it for you.

does anyone know where to get a rebuild kit for these things? if i cant find a used one im going to rebuild mine myself. ive searched google, and have come up empty handed.

not to thread jack, but here are some rebuild kits. i dont know which one will work with what, or how to tell what size input shaft our trucks have, but heres a screen shot of some ebay listings
