Default Is it safe to remove my catalytic converter?

I have a 2000 dodge ram 5.9 I have an after market exhaust that came with it it's not a true dual and I'm pretty sure it's flowmaster. It isn't as loud as I would like it to be and I have been considering removing the cat as I don't have emissions testing where I live. Would there be damage to my engine if I removed it?

yep, you can ditch it if you don't have to worry about an inspection. I had a '98 5.9 that I went true dual on (well I did weld an "H" just before the two mufflers) with no cats. Non-fouler trick got rid of the CEL no problem.

Ditch the Blowmaster, it flows like sh*t and rusts out in no time. You want loud? Pick up a Cherry Bomb Extreme. I replaced my Flowmaster 50HD (which rusted out in less than 3 years) with that Cherry Bomb and now my neighbors all go to bed at night praying I decide to take my Grand Cherokee in the morning and leave my truck parked, LOL...

If the neighbors have barking dogs...I would take the truck each day just because!

Funny you mention that, hammer.

I have a magnaflow cat and a 24" magnaflow on my truck with an after market resonator just before the muffler. I don't really think it's all that loud, but it has a nice deep rumble at idle. Every once in a while, I'll idle down a street or parking lot, and if I barely touch the gas, I can set off certain vehicle's alarm systems.

Every time I do it, I smile.

I'd either cut it out or replace it. I'm thinking plenum issue. I have opver 260,000 on another truck, so i am a high mileage driver. In 40 years of driving, I have never had cat issues, but it appears to be common on these Rams.

When it rattles you should fix right away efore the rattler blocks the whole cat like happened to me. Couldn't keep it running going down a hill when cat decided to clog up. Luckily I remembered the remve the o2 trick to get it home.

You start off by using the search function and reading the many threads on gutting the cat:
