gd....questions are not foolish, that is how you learn!

the reason that i switched from ifs to solid axle is because with large lifts and tires, independent suspension becomes very difficult to dial in the allignment. also the large tires tend to wear out wheel bearings in independent suspension.

when a straight axle is swapped in, it gives you perfect camber and caster (as long as install is done well) so the only thing that can be adjusted is the toe, and typically with used axles the tie rods are set, and as long as the ball joints are still good on the tie rod end, then the toe is good to go.

keep watchin, i am about to go to the shop, and will be gettin work done today!

You didn't have IFS, you had a solid axle suspension to begin with. You just went from a multi-link suspension, to leaf spring. (MUCH easier to deal with......)

2WD is IFS regardless.
Until you get to the 11000 GVWR Cab-chassis model. Then it becomes a straight axle.

As usual you are right, if this was a two wheel drive then yes a sas swap would be the right term to use, but if it was a 4x4 to begin with it's a leaf spring conversion, as the truck came from the factory with a solid front axel. If it was a 4x4 from the factory it did not have ifs it had a 5 link like all 2nd gen 4x4 have.
