All I've ever read about Gatorback's in our trucks is that in some instances they like to squeal more than normal. I had that same problem on a different truck with a Gatorback, so IMO they aren't worth spending any extra money to get. On the other hand, I've read nothing but good reviews about Dayco belts in our trucks.

Why didn't you stop and pull over when you realized you lost your belt?

I hope your drive home wasn't a long one because you made the drive without a functioning water pump. As crack happy as our cylinder heads are, I wouldn't have risked it myself if it would have been more than a few minutes away.

*edit - Ahhh, i see where you mentioned being 5 miles away now...

The Gatorback on my truck has been going round and round just fine for several thousand miles now.

Sounds like a case of mis-aligned pulleys. It's happened to me after having replaced the power steering pump.

In my signature photo? That's on Kodachrome Road, just east of Las Vegas, Nevada, between Vegas and Lake Mead.

Indy also stated he was running a different pulley set and doing some experimenting.

I've not heard much about those belts good or bad.

ok, after having put my old belt back on, the belt is on all the grooves on all the pulleys except for the crank pulley. it is off by one groove. any opinions. i went and returned the belt to advance, and stepped it up a notch and got a dayco instead. should i replace the tensioner? this is an all-of-a-sudden thing. ive gone almost 10k since i replaced my p/s pump and this is the first that anything has happened with any belt.

Make sure the belt and ALL the pulleys have the same amount of grooves. There are 6 and 7 groove pulleys and belts.

all my pulleys are 7 groove pulleys, and i bought a 7 groove belt. wondering if its the tensioner, or if it could be the harmonic balancer.....
