Default Camshaft Question

Can anyone tell me if a camshaft from an "LA" series small block (late 70's/early 80's) will interchange with the Magnun engine camshaft?

Thanks! And yes, it sure would be cheaper, which is why i am wondering. Does any one have the actual overall length of the Magnum engine camshaft, as well as the number of teeth on the distributor drive end? I have the journal dimensions and the grind(profile) is not important at this point.

Trouble is, the lifter angle is different on the magnum motors. That, and the magnum motors route oil to the heads differently too. I think. So, you grind numbers won't be accurate. The LA cams simply won't work in the magnum block.

Thank you for the information. I am new to this forum. I have owned and built numerous mopars over the years, but am relatively new to the magnum engines. They seem to have a lot of potential, but are expensive to hot rod. My current truck is an 01 1500 sport quad cab w/off road pkg. Minor bolt ons...CIA, Accel ignition, and open exhaust(custom). Dynoed at 275 hp.

Don't know the number of teeth off hand, but its been the same for 40 yeard. The old A engine distributor drive gear is sold as the upgraded magnum drive gear. Hardened tip they say, why they didn't levee it that way is beyond me.

There are lots of things wrong with the LA camshaft for the magnum, but the most glaring one is that it won't fit as the magnum doesn't use a mechanical fuel pump.

275 hp? My truck feels like it barely has 100. My mom's car has 240 hp just like our stock trucks and that car would smoke my truck, I know it's lighter but it's way faster, a good three or four times. I hope once I fix my plenum and other small things I can get back up to stock and I really wish I had 275. That has to be fun. Do you have a 0-60 or quarter mile time?

I haven't had it to the strip...yet. 0-60 is 6.8. I also have a '78 w150 with a basically stock 440 HD and automatic. The '01 has no problem keeping up with it till about 95 mph. Then it is all Big Block, probably because of 4.10 gears in the '01 vs. 3.55 gears in the '78. Big blocks have much more torque.

I am calling a HUGE BS flag at 275. I know of someone, who owned his own shop specializing in Mopar Magnum engines who only got 223 with this combo:
50MM fastman TB
Custom Camshaft
1.6 RRs
Mopar RT heads with valve job (2.02 int valves) and heavier springs.
Underdrive pulley
Shorty headers with custom exhaust
N&N X-tream 14X3 air filter
DYNO TUNED for 91 octane (Custom)

So, he did a head and cam swap and didn't get 275 HP to the rear wheels. Was this a chassis dyno or the dyno app for your phone LOL!! (Actually, it probably was since you gave a 0-60 time to the tenth of a second YET have never brought your truck to the track)
Here is the writeup:
