Same thing happened to my 98. I removed it, and put the truck in drive and looked to see if the tranny shaft spun and plus there was no grinding.

I might have to try that. When it started grinding seemed like a lot of vibration towards front of truck. Would that sound like the t case

If it is the t case what's the difference in an NP231 and a NP241DLD. Or what would be a good t case to put in it?

see if you can find a 231DHD, direct bolt in, and a little meaner than the run of the mill 231D.

I went out and tried it and still won't go forward or back and it was hard shifting from reverse to forwards and than back to park. What you guys think?

Just a couple of Q's, have you done a visual inspection under the truck, tranny, t case, shift linkage, look for cracks, big holes, leaking fluid. Does the t case shifter still move? if so have you tried moving the truck in 4 hi or 4 low?

Everythin is hookd up no leaks. I jus tried again and put it in 4 low and it wouldn't go so I gassed on it a bit and it poppd and truck jumped and now it moves, put back in 2wd and will go forward and back. I'm so confused.
