Looking at a 98 Ram 1500, anything I should know?
The Price can start at the "book value" but the condition of the truck, if in fine condition usually drive s the price above any book value. In NY a truck around 1998 would have plenty of rust to deal with because of the salt at winter. A clean truck without rust or very little for their age adds to the price.
As an example I purchased about 4 months ago a 98 reg cab 4x4 8foot bed auto. No dents no rust, paint as showroom and only 63000mi.
For 7800.00!
It was truly a garage kept truck from the midwest. The extra I paid over "Book" was worth it to me because it was like buying a 3-5 year old truck. Even the brake lines and fuel lines were like new! Saved alot of future work and added to the life of the truck. Brakes, rotors etc need to be figured as part of ownership. It's always good the start with new/replaced to give yourself a good troble free start.
If the under carridge looks as good as the body etc in the photo. Take it to a local mechanic to checkout the mechanicals etc. Then..... the price is how much you like/need it. Good luck.

Looks like a nice truck to me. Body looks rust free, which would be a rarity for a 2nd gen in canada. Only you can look at it in person and see what it's really about, but from the pics and info given looks good to me.
And as far as club/extended/quad cab deal. Yours is a "club cab". On a quad cab, you have two rear "suicide" doors to access the back seat. The only difference with the truck you are looking at is there are no rear doors, but there is still a back seat. 98 they introduced the quad cab, and it became standard at some point.

Ok now that I know you are in BC; thats is about the right price for that truck in this province. Where in BC are you. Make sure it's not an old Alberta truck!!

Personally I'd save up or a cummins (if you can). I wish I did but they're so damn expensive. I like diesel a lot because of the slightly better fuel economy and much better torque but they have bigger problems. I think for a clean truck like that its a good deal (as long as nothing mechanical is bad).
So roads aren't salted in BC? I live 20-25 minutes from the ambassador bridge and i've actually never been to ontario, i'm just going by the fact that Canada isn't exactly a tropical oasis and as such i'd assume they salt the roads for ice. Even if they use a mixture to lessen the amount of salt, these second gens rust easier than many vehicles do.

I can't speak for the op as I don't know his area, As for the area (mountians)I am an in, no they don't use salt, much worse 1/2 to 3/4 crush rock, If the op is on the coast or the island they don't see much for snow, or usually don't. The last I heard most of the Provence's had gone to a liquid ice melter of some sort.
