Looking at a 98 Ram 1500, anything I should know?
I don't need one very often, but, it is damn convenient when I do, to just go out, hop in, and do what I need to. I am not rich enough to be able to afford to own/maintain/insure multiple vehicles. Got the wifes Van, and the truck. That's it.
Always nice to have a truck, and after owning one i don't think i'd want to go back to not having one. Gas mileage is the only drawback to me. 4x4 ability, towing ability, having a bed to put things in, and heck i just like sitting up higher and being able to see better when i'm driving. Might not need all that everyday, but it sure is nice to have when you do. Even though i tow a good amount with mine, when the heaviest thing i tow is a 30ft double axle camper, or a car trailer (which are not all that often) i really don't need a 2500/3500...but then again always nice to have when you do.
Was he washing it as you were pulling up!?!? That is always funny. I saw a guy adding oil to a vehicle I was looking at to buy. I pretty much left on the spot. I always show up 30 mins before I say I am because of that. Or I do a "drive by" 1 hour prior.
I would start at 3600 and pay 4000. Then you can take some extra cash and get the plenum fix and a SCT tune. THat truck should last you a while.
You can get a plenum fix, SCT and some 1.7 roller rockers for about $850. Add some headers and you have a good truck with some nice power. About headers, the cheapest I would go for headers are the edelbrock ceramic coated. The most I would pay for headers are the JBA headers. I believe they are about 490 bucks. I had both, and the JBAs are worth the extra 100 dollars. But everyone here will be telling you to get the long tube headers. Not good for Canada eco testing.

Doubt he was washing it as he pulled up, looks like it isn't a new picture. Just from the vegetation it has to be at least as old as this past spring.
To OP, did you ever get to look at the truck in person?

its a been for sale for a while, and yes i went to see it and test drove it (my dad did)
Is it 4wd? Sorry if I missed that, if so 4000 for that is awesome, I paid 3 grand for my truck with no paint job, needed tires, no dash, but it was 4wd and had the 5.9. Overall I like my truck, except my transmission died
I agree I love driving a truck just because they're higher and I know the corolla going 40 up to a redlight can hit the rear of my truck and I'll be fine. I also like having the ability to hit curbs and not getting stuck (that often). Being able to tow my boat is awesome too. Most the people on this forum probably need a truck because they take enough time out of their life to read about their truck. I'm just talking about the pretty boy trucks that you know have never been off road, has never towed anything, and has never had anything in the bed. Personally I think those people shouldnt drive a truck.
