Default trans relay ? really? what does it do...96 v10

i have a 96 dodge ram v10,
tranny seems to do some weird stuff, a rebuild was done 600 miles ago
i just installed an ecu out of a boneyard to fix a no start issue

regular driving starting in drive, tranny seems to start in a high gear, more like 3rd, i can manually shift down to 2nd but not first, it doesnt think 1st is there

BUT, if i put in neutral and then drop to 1st it goes into 1st manually shifting to 2nd then 3rd....OD is funny if i hit the button

any ideas on what the trans relay does?

assuming all solenoids are new and all wires are plugged into tranny

????? any takers

Find out where it was rebuilt at, and take it back to them. Starting off in third is a symptom of the trans being in 'limp' mode..... something is pissing off the PCM, so, a limpin' you will go. Are you getting any trans related codes?

Edit: Ok, looked at your other thread... First off.... YEAH! IT RUNS!

On a more sober note:

P1764 Governor Press Sens Volts Too Low

That would certainly annoy the PCM, and put you in limp mode. As an experiment. Unplug the 8 pin connector right behind the shift linkage on the trans. Take the truck for a drive. BE WARNED! You will have NO automatic functions AT ALL. If you don't shift it, it won't shift. Ever. Run it up and down thru the gears a couple times, if it does what you tell it to, when you tell it to, GPS is toast, and needs replaced. (on your nice rebuilt trans......) If it comes right down to it, replace the pressure sensor as well.

but i will do whay ya said HY andunplug that connector and drive, shift manually

Maybe..... but, i really don't think there is a lot of difference in they way the PCM runs the auto trannies.... May want to find out where the trans was rebuilt, and then ask 'em if they replaced the governor pressure solenoid/sensor.... Not sure what general policy is on those for rebuilds.... (I would like to think they replaced them, but, if they used a low quality part..... real possibility that it has failed...)

this is what i think: Manual transmissions are the way to go.

But in relation to the picture, i think you have your work cut out for you!

What? There's nothing wrong with that? You are SUPPOSED to have bare wires, so the electrons can catch one last breath of fresh air before going into the hot transmission.......

On a more serious note.... Yeah, that could be a bit of a problem........

im an electrician by trade and i think i just threw up in my mouth a little. get a good wire bundle from a jy and use enviromental splices(sealed slplices) at least 6 inches from the plug and you should be good to go
