I've noticed the "disappearing" engine coolant for a little while now along with the "gurgle" noise in the dash on some start ups.

And my passenger floorboard usually gets pretty wet after I re-fill the coolant tank (just using some water for now while it's leaking)

Does this sound like a bad heater coil? How much of a PITA is the job normally?

Yep, sounds just like a leaking heater core, and the job is a massive PITA. You've got to pull the dash to get at it.

 

Does the carpet smell like antifreeze?

 

Could be the passenger window wasn't raised all the way and it rained inside of your truck.

The disappearing coolant is merely a coincidence.

 

Yes, those are classic symptoms of a bad heater core. The DIY section has a nice step by step. It should take you 3 - 5 hours depending on how many breaks/beers you have. It is not that hard, just time consuming. Make sure the new heater core you get has pipes/lines that swivel. It makes reinstalling the new core MUCH easier.

 

I disagree. How could the heater core possibly be leaking onto the carpeting when it's buried in the dash?

The OP should drag this out for at least 5 pages by asking a litany of inane questions rather than taking the time to search through the DIY section

 

I guess it could possibly be that someone is playing a prank on him. Lowering the coolant level and pouring liquid on the passenger side floor.

Do you keep your doors locked at night?
