Red-Head Steering Gears

I've checked them out from other references to them on DF. I was going this route, but decided to gice it s shot first. If I am not 100% satisfied with this project (or if I cannot get it back together and adjusted properly) I will go ahead and order one from Redhead.

it's one of those "I can fix anything (almost)" kind of things.....

What VW said. Which is why I eventually decided to wait for the funds and go that route. Except for the shipping ordeal, and core charge it is without a doubt the way to go.

You might also consider one of these. http://stores.ebay.com/Offroad-Parts...fsub=586151017

I wish I could use one too, but I believe the plow mount will keep me from doing so.

It appears those are for 4wd. Mine is 2wd. Would it still fit/help?

Umm, life may be good for you, now that Texas tied it up. But it would be even better for "all" of us, if the info about your truck was in your sig instead. LOL I have no idea if it will work on a 2wd.(I doubt it) But, I don't see a 2wd being any where near as much of a problem as 4wd. I never would have mentioned it otherwise.

If you're building this as a DIY, which is thoughtful if you do, please, please, PLEASE take pictures before each step as the parts are laid out in their installation sequence and then after they're installed. Also, my pet peeve is people who take pictures for the forums with a POS cell phone and qualify it with, "Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic". Is it THAT DIFFICULT to preview a picture before continuing to the next step? If you have a crappy cell phone, how about A) upgrading, or B) getting a decent digital camera (not too difficult these days).

This isn't a criticism of you -- just some suggestions and a side-track rant. The pics you have thus far are perfect.

This is really great that you're taking the plunge to tackle this rebuild, gdstock.

Yeah. POS cell phones are an issue. I have blurred several and either retaken or deleted them. No photo is better than crappy photo imho. Blackberry here, with high end canon, nikon, and hasselblad in cases. But don't want expensive gear sitting on tripods around work area, and wouldn't think of touching them with greasy hands.

I am taking a large number of photos, and IF successful, will put together a DIY. Trying to keep greasy fingers from ruining bberry though.

Get a condom for your blackberry. Wrap in in saran wrap, or something similar. Works great.

"Get a condom for your blackberry".

Yeah, wrap that rascal. Already too many of those damn things.

Hey, are you going to replace those bearings, or did they look OK after all?

(And that's a hell of a good job you're doing; of course, my full admiration will only be bestowed when it's put back together).
