Steering rebuild
Yes. I have a ton of photos, expecially from the reassembly and adjustments. I have to juggle work (several emergency call outs, even the PD coming by the house to get help) and ball games. I will edit photos to crop so they do not spread too wide across the screen and compose layout with narrative. May be this weekend before I can put this all together - but I will do it. Trying to squeeze in changing ball joints also as I have a front end alignment scheduled for tomorrow just after a root canal. Fun day tomorrow!

Can't wait to see everything!
Good news AND great news!
Got it all together. Amazing how much better this thing steers with rebuilt gearbox, new pump and hoses, all new tie rods, Idler arm, pitman arm, and ball joints!
and.....Rangers move to ALCS! It's Miller Time! ......

I attempted this recently. did something wrong with the ball bearings... i started it up, everything looked good, i turned the wheel, every seal in the box blew out. so i had manual steering for a while. Replaced it with a "Guaranteed" used unit, which, of course, leaks.
Output/Pitman shaft was the easy part Backwoods, you can do that part without touching the complicated stuff.

Not about the GAME? You're no fun..........lol (come on YANKEES! - you're up!)
I am hoping to get it done this weekend. I want it all together so I don't get the c**p in the thread as happend to rocky mtn' trans rebuild a couple weeks ago. That distracted the process and information, and possibly turned people off as well.

Ball screws are always a pita. There are 24 *****, 2 different diameters. You have to alternate sizes and insert ***** into ball nut with an arbor inserted. Then you have to slip the ball nut to the screw while turning screw to load assembly. Took a couple attempts for me. Not alternatin creates a binding situation and probably is what blew seals out.
Ha i just started to rebuild my powersteering Gearbox yesterday and while googling a rebuld kit i came across this Thread. The reason i took mine apart was because it was causing me a death wobble. There was No leak, no noise, it just ha a slight play on the pitman shaft area.
The unit wasnt that dirty, it just had silt like sludge and the rest was powersteering fluid. Like i said it didnt leak or make noise, i could of just maybe adjusted it but decided to tear it down since i had just replaced the whole suspension trying to find the death wobble, which was this (pitman shaft).
My question is, where did you find the bearings, and did you replace the two sets of 12 ball bearings too?
thanks

I cannot remember, but I was able to get one of the bearings form parts store, the others came from an industrial bearing supply house in Abilene. Any bearing supply should have it or be able to order it.
I did not replace the ball screw *****. If properly loaded, they will not wear. The important thing with these is to alternate sizes (small, tiny, small, tiny, etc) Do NOT loose andy, and do not change alternatig sequence as screw will lock up. Be carful with prelaod, it is critical. (I used to do very large and very long industrial ball screws for huge CNC machinery - or I would NOT have attempted this.
Also, yiou need a tool to hold ***** in place when pulling screw out. I took a piece of large dowel rod (1 1/2" Ithink, and turned to diameter). Slip this in as screw is being pulled out and it will hold ***** in place.
