Why not replace the pump as well? Autozone shows the standard one at $25 and the high volume at $45 (for my 5.9l at least).
I wouldn't want to drop the pan, replace the pickup and screen, only to find that the pump was the culprit and have to go back in there and waste 5 qts of oil... if it's the original pump, probaby wouldn't be a bad idea, especially if you are having intermittent pressure problems.
You could buy one, and if you find that the screen was definitely the culprit (obviously plugged up when you drop the pan or junk in the pan) then you can return the new pump. If the screen doesn't look clogged, replace the pump also.
Unless you've had some cheaply made oil filters fall apart on you and you've skipped regular oil changes, your screen most likely isn't clogged...

well i just had my entire engine apart the other day to do the water pump, timing chain, and plenum fix/kegger mod. im thinking some gasket material fell into the engine somewhere. i got the new oil psi sender installed last night, and got the new mechanical gauge wired up to the dimmer switch tonight. just gotta finish plumbing in the gauge and ill be all set to start her up.
i pin pointed when it happens. only happens when i go full throttle and then let off and drive normal again. doesnt do it when i just drive normally. so there is probly something in the pan. going camping this weekend. and i should be able to start collecting parts. gotta put some money away so i can pay Mr. Zman for a couple parts im buying off him.

You should probably replace the rear main seal too. http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech-article-31.html
