If thre was a way to power it that didnt use up more energy than it creates it would work...myth busters proven that... their was a guy names stan Meyers who had a patent of such a system supposedly... as the story goes when he turned it on to show the patent officer they evacuated the whole building in fear of an explosion....Stan Meyers dropped dead in his soup at a restaurant which many claim was some conspiracy theory. and the schematics he used while applying for a patent were bogus neon light wiring schematics doctored up to look like something else so..take that for what its worth.
I've done lots of research on this like many others did when gas prices hit the roof....
Bottom line despite countless attempts like you see on youtube, even those with limited success have not been able to make it work reliably in real life conditions...
It was cool to see the news reports of Stan driving his "water powered" vw sandrail across the country though...At the time even the us government was interviewed and showed an interest in the technology.
Dont waste your money unless you want to tinker as a hobby....
Now "GEET " or sometimes called "Pantone" systems, thats cool... They even teach the technology in some European universities... it great for things like generators since it has like 0 measurable carbon emissions and runs on anything from **** to pickle juice mixed with a little flammable liquid... same thing though...lower HP output and hard to make work reliably at varying throttle levels...

I wonder if he disappeared along the lines of the guy who "invented" a 100mpg carburetor  I call BS on all of that.

Every time gas prices increase a few pennies people panic and the snake oil salesmen come out of the woodwork to hawk their wares. To say that gas prices are "too high" is really a stretch and a bunch of BS. A couple of years ago, when gas was almost $3/gallon we crunched some numbers in Macro-Economics class and learned an ugly truth -- when adjusted for inflation, a gallon of gasoline was actually more expensive in 1982 than in 2009.

You do take the cake on cynical I'll give you that.... I thought I was bad..
I think my statement that a couple years ago gas prices were a little crazy compared to the norm would be backed up here by most...
and in 1982 wasnt gas being rationed with crazy lines at the stations? I was only 4 at the time so I'm going by what others have told me so I might be off a bit... $3 dollars a gallon? I wish. I know it was well over $4.50 a gallon for the cheap stuff a couple years ago here in buffalo, I still have some of the pics I took with my phone. if it wasnt such a pain in the *** to post them here I would. but we have the highest gas prices in the country in this area although no one have come up with a good reason why.
At that time their were tons of snake oil sellers everywhere trying to profit from it. I totally agree with that, Thats why I was reading up on it.. Even ebay was loaded with sellers pushing HHO crap... Forums like this had threads like this every other day it seemed.. Thats all I'm saying. No need to go calling BS on everything just because you dont agree..
As far as the 100mpg carb? yes their is some truth to the story behind that... It is documented that the technology for that carb was purchased for a lot of money and was tested by at least one of the Detroit giants... but for whatever reason (Maybe lack of reliability who knows) it really never went anywhere. I can say one of the guys I hunt with's father worked in the R&D dept at gm and he used to get to sign out and drive various "testing" cars and according to my buddy his dad had signed out an ugly green station wagon that got at the time what seemed like astronomical gas mileage... He remembers his dad telling him he got some serious flack for keeping the vehicle so long and not turning it back in.
I know this is hearsay and subject to exaggeration but honestly to say nothing like it could have ever existed because it would be in use is just as silly..
vehicles also averaged better fuel economy in the 80's than they did in the 90's... Why go backwards?... a lot of reasons $$ and what priorities sold vehicles at the time..

The gas rationing was all political stunt work back in 1973/74, not the early 1980s. As far as the 100mpg carb, a carburetor is nothing more than a controlled fuel leak. Fuel injection is far superior because each individual cylinder can be tuned for optimal efficiency. Also, mileage is going to be determined by a proper combination of fuel delivery, ignition (electronic versus old school distributor and points), number of cylinders, and the transmission w/ rear end gearing.

I'm not cynical, I just happen to have one of these that works well:

yeah but the thing is you called bs on my first post without even reading it right.... I state gas prices hit the roof which caused all the HHO hype to come about a couple years ago and you call BS and basically confirm the same thing in the same statement...
As far as the carb thing....technology has changed a lot....they had fuel injected cars back in the 50's but they werent as reliable or as efficient as the carb models...again apples to oranges... I agree you may be able more efficiency out of fuel injection but that doesnt mean there is no carb technology that has been or could be developed to get much better efficiency than what was mass produced... I'm simply saying someone had a way of making the carb more effiecient and althought it may have had too many shortcomings to be used there was a basis for the 100mpg carb story and some truth to the myth...That was also something that was gone over in a tv documentary I saw where they tried to clear up the rumors. GM and the like buy up independent patents all the time and dont use them... and in order to get a patent you have to prove its new and works at least somewhat. I call BS on your Cynicism based on ignorance of the subject..and you backup your claims with other non related facts about ignition systems? That not what was being discussed.
Its like saying if anything better could ever be developed it would have been already... again rhetorical statement

google Charles Nelson Pogue and read about his 1930's vaporizing carb......

The 1973 Arab Oil Embargo was quite real. Countries waging war tend to look unfavorably upon any who support their opponents. OPEC threw an embargo on us then just as we've thrown an embargo on Iran for supporting the post-Saddam Iraqi resistance.

Way back then I got to walk to my junior high school each morning in the dark so it could be made to look like Tricky Dick was doing something. It didn't save any energy at all, but it looked like he was doing something. Preparing to resign, which was a very good thing indeed.

That chart seems to coincide with the point I was trying to make... Imagine that? Prices where just as high in 81 as they were in 2009 after adjusting for inflation... Those charts and statistics are just more BS I'm sure...
Sorry ...I'll shut up now..

Inflation adjusted prices aren't really meaningful, and don't tell the full story. Notice how the 'adjusted' price of gas goes DOWN over several decades, in relation to 'today's dollar value', even though the 'apparent' price is pretty stable for what, 60 plus years? Back in the early 70's, when I was making 3 bucks and some change an hour, I could fill up my motorcycle for less than 50 cents..... Today...... the average 'kid income' is at best what? Even 10 bucks an hour? and HOW much does it cost to fill your tank?

How about looking at the price of gas vs. median income? Or, price of gas as a factor of percentage of disposable income?

Yes, the Embargo was real. The problem was there were full tankers anchored that couldn't deliver oil to the refineries in the US. I remember all too well the magic dollar amount my parents would spend on gas was always $5. I also remember the Odd/Even days of being allowed to get gas depending on the last character of a tag.

You stated there was gas rationing in the 1980s, which there wasn't. Also, when adjusted for inflation, gas was more expensive in the early 1980s than when I stated due to incomes. If you want, do some more checking and crunching and you'll find that it was super, super expensive in the 1950s when the inflationary adjustments are taken into consideration. Those are the variables you're missing.

Also, do yourself a favor and read up on stoichiometric ratio.
