It looks as though the entire lower dash unit goes from one side of cab across to the other, and is seaparte fromt the top half and then the top panel piece, which is the one that always seems to break.

The illustration in the parts manual is not very clear. It appears that to replace the hinge part of lower dash panel you have to replace the entire lower dash panel. I am afraid to try to pull this thing apart yeat as I fear that it will fall apart in my hands and make me start a stringof waht my mother used to call "colorful" language. I know I will have to do this eventually when my new upper dash unit arrives and I get it painted, but has anyone had any experience pulling the lower part out? Is the lowere section all one piece or is tehre a way to fix the glove box hinge part?

Thanks.

Not wanting to really hijack a thread - but don't think we need another thread right now about cracked das.

There is some healthy discussion of dash cap vs dash replacement. Although I already made my purchase decision, I would hope that everyone that has posted would keep updating what they decided and how it turned out. I received my replacement dash today from E & K Bumper Fillers Inc. Their website is http://sandkindustries.com/DASH.html.

It appears to be sturdy and well built, but it will require painting (unless your interior is black) as it is only available in black.

Will be late next week before I can start to install.

Hey everyone. Sorry it's taken me this long to finally post some pictures, but here is the dash I ordered from LMC Truck. I know that they offer this gray one and a tan dash for this year model. I don't know about any other color options, but as you can see, the gray is pretty much identical to the original, if not a bit sturdier.

That must be where the PO of my pickup got my dash from. The grain is just slightly different. Only way I could tell.

Nice job, iacordero. I really need to do this to my 99 Ram. Can you tell me a little more about your statement in the original post

"No, you will not be able to fasten it to the vents under the dash like it came from the factory unless you take the entire dash apart, "

I'm just not sure I follow it. Do you have pictures of this part?

And, if I do decide to do this I like the LMC product but does it come with any kid of warranty like some of the others I've seen?

Thanks for the thread.

I got mine from E & K Bumper Fillers Inc. Their website is http://sandkindustries.com/DASH.html. I used double sided tape to hold vents to dash as they were from the factory. The two vents on the sides (side window defrost) utilize screws to hold them.
