Default Reliable Valve Spring Compression Tool

I am replacing my valve seals on my 5.9 Magnum and the tool I was using broke. It was a universal one from Summit Racing. If anybody has had luck with another one please pass the information.

Thanks,

Brandon

I used the cool snap-on on-the-head valve spring compressor.... of course, being snap-on, its priced like its made out of friggin' gold......

I may end up just fabricating one from spare metal. I'll share pics if it works. The number seven and eight cylinders are going to be a pain.

Novarider,

That's exactly like the one that I broke yesterday. I ended up buying two from NAPA today. One is just a lever made of steel and the other is more of a crimp-style with a lever causing the compression. I'll let you know if either one sucks.

Okay, I ended up using tools very similar to the ones in the pictures below. I found it made life easier if I were to tap with a hammer on the top of the valve spring caps (not the valve itself) just to pop them and the keepers loose. I then used the lever on the ones that were accessible and the other contraption on the ones under the firewall.

Anyway, I should have taken pictures of it but the valve seal replacement was pretty easy. Hopefully this fixes my oil consumption problem since I already have the Hughes plenum fix...

+1 on the tapping with a hammer. That's how I learned to break them free a 100 years ago.
