My 2000 Dakota's injector failed and hydro locked the 8th cylinder. ****ing pissed...But I still love a Dodge.
This is what I am looking for a 1500 manual 5.9L.
I am just doing more research so I would like to know any problems you have had with yours or tell me how much you love it. Just want to make sure I make a great buying decision :-)
Oh, and how did your injector failing hydrolock your engine? Did your injector fail by squirting water into the engine instead of fuel? Or did the injector fail by dumping too much fuel?
correct me if i am wrong, i know the diesel 5 speed have an issue with the back nut working there way loose. do the 5.9 ones have the same issue? not sure but its not cheap to work on a diesel 5speed trans. if it fails.
Its the fifth gear nut and it seems pretty common, you can fix it yourself or baby it, it seems like the high out put diesels are the ones who have the biggest problems
Yes with a bit more research you are right 5.9 does not come with a manual. Thank you for all the insight, that bolt issue is very interesting.
I have not been able to drive a 5.9 auto how does it feel to drive? I had a 4.7 manual dakota that was fun, wonder how it would compare.

The full-size truck weighs so much more that you might be disappointed that you can't get the zip you're used to.
The automatics are problematic, so if you pick up one of these big ole dudes you might just as well plan on giving PATC a call when the trans starts acting up. The Viper or Mega Viper might cost two to two and a half times as much as a stock rebuild, but it'll likely last until the rest of the truck falls rotten around it. The stock rebuild, well... there's a lot of noise made hereabouts by guys on their third transmissions and looking at a fourth by the time there's 200,000 miles on the clock.
