Default Question About Diff. Fluid

Can I use Valvoline synthetic 75w-90 gear oil in my 9.25 rear and Dana 44 front axles without worry? I looked through the D-I-Y threads and didn't see this weight oil listed. I have some at home and would like to use it if I can.

Also, I see that I need 2.5 qts for the front axle, how much do I need for the rear? And can I use the same weight in both?

Any help would be appreciated!

You'll be fine as long as you are not towing all the time. In that case I'd use 75w-140 and capacities and other info can be found in this thread in the FAQ section. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...uid-types.html

Ok, I see that the D44 axle requires about 2.5 quarts. And am I reading it right that I should fill the rear axle to 5/8 of an inch below the fill hole?

4.8 pints for the rear diff. I don't know why it's not in there. And the 5/8ths is correct, but it's really not that big of deal.

You might want to make sure the rear diff is not an LSD. You'll need a small bottle of additive if it is an lsd. Then again, I think the synthetic comes with it already. Not sure on that though.

Yeah, I forgot about that. I plan on jacking up the rear tonight to check the back brakes anyway. How does it work, if I spin one wheel, and the other wheel spins the same direction, it's and LSD. And if the other wheel spins in the opposite direction, it's open, right?

I forget, lol sorry ( I think your right though). But you can look on the sticker on top of the radiator support, or there should be a sticker inside your glove box. It will say "anti-spin"

I'll take a look when I get home tonight (don't have the truck wth me at work). If that fails, I did request a build sheet today, so if I have to I'll just wait 'til I get that. Thanks a ton for the help.
