Please help
Are you sure you are on tdc comp stroke? Pull the drivers side valve cover turn the motor over till the intake valve opens then closes, put what ever you are using to feel the top of the piston and bring the piston to the top, check this with the timing marks on the block and the balancer, reset all your timing gear from there.
Theres more than one tdc

Whatever you do, don't pull your distributor!!
Speaking of, did you pull the distributor?
the rotor sits off to the passenger side of the truck when its on the #1 plug wire? is that right
That is what I said, but not in a nutshell. I don't think he read the link Zman gave:

So to begin with timing a camshaft, the motor needs to be set at top dead center of the compression stroke. If you are unsure what this means, remove the valve cover on the driver side, rotate the crank pulley with a 32 mm socket, until you see the intake valve, which is the second valve spring, begin to compress. When I say compress, this means the valve spring is opening the valve. As the valve spring begins to close, the piston will be approaching the top of its travel. The crank shaft pulley/harmonic balancer, will have a mark to indicate top dead center on the timing cover. This Mark will align with the TDC mark on the timing cover just after the intake valve spring closes.
STOP WHEN IT SAYS TO REMOVE THE DISTRIBUTOR!!!
That should be fine since you did not pull the distributor.
I think you have it set at the EXHAUST stroke rather than the compression stroke. The reason it is supposed to be at #1 on the compression stroke is that it is supposed to FIRE once the AF mixture is compressed. You seem to have it set when the exhaust valve is open and it is pushing what is supposed to be BURNED fuel out the chamber.
The intake and exhaust valves will never be closed. WHat side of the engine were you looking at (valves)? Driver or passenger?
okay i probably do . now to set the truck to its compression strock i need to rotate the motor until the valve sprign opens up and then closes. ( the second one) now hwat do i do with the cam gear
Stop me if I give ill advised info. I think he was looking at the passenger side valves when setting TDC.
