Default Where do you buy manual transmissions + automatic transmission random questions

So I've been looking for about 3-4 weeks for a manual transmission and haven't missed a post on Craigslist in south Florida since then. I've searched car-parts.com, copart.com, eBay, and called all the local junk yards. eBay has the transmission alone for about 1200 and I can rebuild my automatic at a shop for 1500. I can't rebuild mine myself because I have no where to rebuild it out of the weather when I do it and I don't want to hope I get everything right then when something goes wrong bringing it inside so that's not a possibility for me.
Pretty much any other ideas on where to look? Thanks and have a great day!

have you tried here --> http://www.mintonmotorsinc.com/

your problem will be that about 90+% of these trucks came with auto transmission, and only 10% or less had manual transmissions, so the numbers are against you.

your second problem is your going to need shift linkage, clutch, pedals, flywheel, maybe a computer? buying these individually will cost a fortune.

you may be better off to buy an entire junk truck, take what you need, and resell the remainder of the junker.

i doubt you'll get all these parts for less than $1000 unless you just get lucky as hell.

Gotta agree with dh here. Unless you get really lucky, you will spend more doing the conversion than you would rebuilding the auto. If you spend a bit more rebuilding your auto, it will be the last transmission your truck will ever need.

Another consideration is, the bulk of half ton trucks got the NV3500 trans. Not the sturdiest unit in the world..... and a good percentage of the manuals you find in junkyards are going to be behind diesels, or v-10's. which have an entirely different bellhousing bolt pattern than the gassers. (and I think different input shafts as well....)

If you are dead set on doing the conversion, look for the whole truck, 98 or newer, that has the manual/v-8 in it. Doesn't matter if the motor is blown, the body is just a pile of rust, etc. So long as the trans and such is all still there, it will work.

I dont know how far down in South Florida you are, but my transmission guy owns Budget Trans in Leesburg and he replaced mine with a lifetime warrantied 46RE, replaced 3 freeze plugs AND installed an aftermarket trans cooler for like $1200...had it done back in July and it's been going strong.

I'm in fort lauderdale, that's actually a great price. Was your transmission blown? Ya I am definitely going to get a nv4500 and I found a bellhousing for about 200 on eBay for my truck.
I've been looking for a whole truck, hopefully a cummins so I could sell the engine, and there really are no manual dodge rams. I've found one on Craigslist in all of Florida.
Thanks for the help guys

Ya that's really tempting me, If I can find that deal for 1400 I'd take it. I'm going to shop for automatic transmission rebuilds today and see if I can find a lifetime warranty because I like mudding lpl
