Default Kegger stuff

So all the kegger mod threads I've seen all agree to disagree on the how much to cut off the runners on the 5.9

some say to cut em all the way and others say a couple inches or as much as the 5.2

I have a 01 5.9 so I don't have to worry bout the plate but I wanna open up the upper end some, but only if I don't have to sacrifice my ridiculous low end.

I'm also getting ready to tear into the plenum so I figure this is a good a time as any to try the kegger mod.

If you don't want to sacrifice bottom end, then leave the intake alone.

They have the plenum plate but not a plate in the middle of the intake.

So this mod does sacrifice the bottom end a significant amount?

This has been my big question. If I take 1.5" off the runners, will the bottom end suffer enough to outweigh the advantages of having a better upper end? I mostly want to have more power when I want to pass some slug in front of me.

And yeah, I thought all Magnums had this problem, even to this day. No?

Lastly, by "ridiculous bottom end", do you (not you Z) mean "ridiculously good", as in maybe you could sacrifice a little of it to get better top end?

Yeah I do have some bottom end to spare I reckon, John pretty much sums up what I want to know. How much does it take away from the low end and does it warrant it from the gain in the top end.

I still wanna be able to turn my tires on a daily basis though

"I have a 01 5.9 so I don't have to worry bout the plate"

Just to clear up any possible confusion, it's my understanding that you still do have to worry about the plate, but you don't have a center divider to get rid of like I do in my '94. So I'm guessing you were planning on "tearing into the plenum" so you could modify the runners? Might as well get an aluminum plate too, and either bolt it on, or weld it on if you're pretty confident you're going to be happy with the runner mod.

Sorry to confuse people I did mean the center divider. The plenum plate I definitely do have to worry about. I'm still looking into the kegger mod.

And "tearing into the plenum" is my way of saying putting the Hughes plate in, complete with new bolts of course

I've got to fix the plenum too on my rig, I'm starting to think about changing the intake setup, the Huhges AirGap is pricey, haven't looked at the prices of the Mopar ones yet.

I have noticed several mentions of welding a plenum plate to intake. I used to be plant engineering manager for a coundry that cast aluminum intakes in Denison. Although I am not a metlaurgist, I kow that welding plate to cast is problematic. By nature of their compostition, they will not expand and contract at the same rate (has to do with density and porosity) and therefore, I would be concerned about cracking at the weld. I would be interested to see long term results of this.
