Talking 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4 tranny problems!

I have a 1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4,I had the codes pulled for the tranny and it said my solenoids where bad,I can manual shift the transmission,But it will not switch gears automatically,I dropped the tranny pan and the valve body and replaced both solenoids and tightened both bands,It switched gear perfectly,I drove it about 20 miles,I stopped to go in the store and now it's right back to the same thing,I have to manually switch gears,Any help would be of great help,Thanks!!!!

Here's an update!!!
O.K.,I have been doing some reading and i pulled the battery cable off and reset the computer,And it shifts fine until i shut the engine off and then it go's back to not shifting,I can turn the ignition key off and on three times to reset the computer and it work's fine,Check engine light is still on,Any suggestion's,I know i need to pull the code again,But my buddy will have to lend me his code reader!!!Weird huh!!

Doing the key dance will simply tell the computer to display the codes by flashing the check engine light at you. It doesn't reset anything.

Did you find anything odd in your trans pan when you pulled it off? Did you have a look at the governor pressure sensor and solenoid while you were in there? I take it you replace the O/D, and TCC solenoid set??

replaced governor pressure sensor and solenoid,The key dance must reset something,I read it somewhere,And if i don't do that it won't automatically shift gears,I read some where if you turn your key on and off three times it resets the codes in the computer,That's what it must be doing,Because it works every time!Did not find anything in the pan or on the magnet either,Like i said after i reset it it work's great,Making me crazy!!!!Also replaced the solenoid pack!!!

It must,I do not have a code reader,My buddy has a good one and we will hook it up this week to see what codes it will throw out while we drive it,Thought maybe someone would have had the same problem at one time and i could work from there!Stops working when you shut it off and restart it,unless i do the key dance, lol!!Then all is good shifts fine drives fine!!!Weird!!

Where did you get your sensor and solenoid from? May just be low quality units that don't always work as advertised......

I hear ya on the 'weird' part though.....

It's not working because you do the key trick. It's because you are stopping and shutting down. The key trick reads codes, that's it.
