Default EGR delete issue

Well, here is what I've done.
When doing kegger mod I've machined out the EGR tube inside of the manifold (it's a 94) and welded shut left over hole. I ran like this for a while with no signs of issue, but running little rich. Few days ago CHECK ENGINE light came ON. read the codes
#12 - battery recently disconnected - OK
#37 - Open or short in CKT wiring or connectors. Voltage out of range at transmission temperature sensor input. - No issue there, I have 94 which does not have transmission temperature sending unit.
#32 - Short or open in the EGR solenoid circuit. Check for loose, broken, or shorted wire in the EGR valve wiring and connectors. Possible air fuel ratio imbalance not detected during diagnosis. This is the one that worries me. I do smell rich when running and i would like to do something to get it run better (leaner)
If I use adjustable fuel pressure regulator (and lower the pressure to run leaner) can I take care of this issue or is there anything else I should consider?
I don't really care about the CHECK ENGINE light, but I would like to make it run leaner.
I already have bunch of new stuff on it, New injectors, NTK O2 sensor, New exhaust including catalytic converter.

If your truck has the tow package, or heavy duty package, you do indeed have a trans temp sensor. It will be in one of the cooler lines, right up by the trans.

You could mount the EGR valve, and plug everything in, and that may or may not take care of the code, but, probably won't address the running rich problem. Other alternative would be to get a PCM custom burned for you, that excludes EGR functions. That would not be cheap though.....

Truck did not came with tow package so no tranny temp sensor. And yes there is a place for it but it is not there.
EGR is still mounted to the intake and all but the port going into the intake part of the manifold is blocked off.
Can I adjust how rich/lean it will run with and adjustable fuel pressure regulator?
Or maybe I should look for the computer and the harness from the 97 and up (and switch it to OBDII) that did not use EGR setup?

Making the switch to OBDII might be a good idea. Trouble is, those PCM's are going to be looking for governor pressure sensor and solenoid..... given that you already spent big bucks for a trans, I doubt you are going to want to do that again.... Would prolly be cheaper getting a custom PCM without EGR......

For the most part the OBD1 PCM will run fine with missing EGR. Just keep the EGR module plugged in and the vaccum lines plugged.
