One item that constantly comes up is about the plenum. Check out this thread :

I just bought one myself, haven't had anything really unusual happen to it so far, I like it.

Wow, you beat zman to the punchline here. I'm impressed.

welcome,
-since you have a 4x4 if you do any front wheel hub maintence, be very careful, the front axle seal are very easy to screw up.
-+1 on the plenum, and if yours needs replaced then go ahead and replace the timing set and water pump, only go to a 180 degree t-stat if you get an SCT tuner
-a good tuner will do significantly more then any single mod(sct from hemifever)
-never use bosch for anything especially O2 sensors
-use the search function on this forum if you have a tech question, it really does work. and you question may of already been awnsered
-add your trucks info to your signature so that you dont have to type it on every post

edit: of course this only affect you if you actually by the truck

The transmissions are notoriously weak in these trucks. If it doesn't shift flawlessly your looking at a rebuild which will set you back anywhere from 1-2k depending where you live. Even if it shifts great you still might be looking at a rebuild soon.

I love my truck but if I had known I was going to have to spend $1200 on the transmission just 2 weeks after I bought it I would have gone with another truck.

I've got a 99 2500 gas with 230,000 miles. It's got a weak motor, but the rest of the truck is pretty solid. Pay attention to the condition of the rear axle ring and pinion. Make sure the heat works (you do not want to install a new heater core).
