strange steering issue

You will need a 13/16" socket (1/2" drive) and possibly breaker bar, 1/2" combination wrench, a pittman arm puller and maybe a pickle fork. Three bolts to the frame and the 1/2" is for the column shaft to gearbox. Also, I think the nut on pitman arm ball joint is 7/8". a large crescent will get the nut on pittman to gearbox. Pretty simple.

well since i couldn't anyone on craigslist willing to sell one on a sunday i will be ordering a remaned first thing in the morning which will be in by the time i get home from work. other question about the last post should there have been 3 bolts to the frame? mine only had 2 and i didn't notice where one was missing. i'm crossing my fingers that i'll have normal steering again tomorrow because i'm allready hearing all about making the kids get up at 530 so the wife can drive me to work. thanks for all the help so far

update i think it's fixed!!! still got alot of air in the system but so far i seem to have resistance in my steering. letting it sit for a little while so the foam settles then i'll go check it again and run to to town. still need to pick up the 3rd bolt that was missing so i'll do that next time i head to *******. thanks again for all the help

What did you do to fix it? Replace gearbox?

yes the problem must have been the gear box got a remaned one for $168 from auto value just ran to the gas station with the truck (about 6-8 miles) and it's returning to center like it should but still has hard spots which i'm assuming is just that there is still air in the system. the hardest part of the job was getting the steering shaft onto the new gearbox. anyone now the torque spec on the pitman arm nut? i got it nice and tight but don't want to take the chance of it backing off
