97 V10 8.0L Exhaust Question
Hi all, I own a 1997 Dodge Ram ext cab 4x4 V10 and need an exhaust. It rotted away right where the cat meets the midpipe (only on one so far). I'm having a problem finding an exhaust for the truck, all I've been finding is axle back sections, where I need a full catback. Also, I love the swept side exhaust where its dual exhaust exiting behind each tire. Does anyone know where I can find something that will work, or do i have to have a shop custom make it??? If it does have to be custom, anyone know a good shop in or around CT?? Thank you in advance for your input/help.

Thanks Hey You and Hans GZP! Any other input would be appreciated.
Hans: I did see the Gibson exhaust, but it looked like just an axle-back system, is it an actual cat-back system?

The cats on these things are pretty far back as it is. So, it should be a catback. There isn't much exhaust past the rear axle. I would also consider replacing the cats while doing the exhaust. They are known to go bad... especially the OEM ones. I ran dual Magnaflow cats on mine because I had one that was rattling pretty bad.

I don't know what the idle speed should be for a V10, but you can download a serevice manual in the FAQ/DIY section. Should be able to find it. fast idle could be vacuum leak or IAC. TPS should not be an issue, if the throttle is closed. Plugs and wire problems should cause it to idle and run rough. You might clean the IAC and see if that fixes the problem. My 5.2L idles around 980 when it is cold then idles down to about 684 after it warms up.

Idle is around 600-700 on the v10. There is a tsb on how the plug wires should be run, but that usually causes a misfire condition. I would definitely replace the IAC first. There aren't many vacuum lines, but it is possible to develop a leak.
Thank you everyone for your input and help. I ordered an IAC today and will be putting that in. I'll start there and hope that solves the problem. Then I'll be changing plugs, wires and cap/rotor.
