Hans, that would probably get you in trouble because you would want to fix it up after you towed it home!

If there is water in the oil, there are probably other problems as well. Like wasted rod and main bearings...... It might be worth that as a parts donor..... but, not much aside from body panels will swap with your truck.

Still a gamble. If the magic dust doesn't work, you get more water in the oil. Water doesn't lubricate worth a damn. Bearing failure follows quickly.

What about throwing a junkyard motor in it for a couple hundred bucks? Then you could have a dedicated trail rig that you could beat the snot out of and not care what happens to it. I think that's what I would do.

it all depends on how much money you've got and whether its a 1500 or 2500.

if its a 2500, check the rear axle pumpkin shape. the octagonal shape of the 9.25 is the light duty 2500 are not worth much. BUT - the standard dana 60's are worth $1000 or more as a pair, maybe more if they already have 4.10 gears. so you might could make some money on it as a parts truck.

if you've got plenty of money to throw at it for repairs, then go ahead and get it and fix it as needed. the head gasket repair chemical MIGHT work, or with some work and $100 in parts, you could probably replace them, as long as the heads are cracked, which inflates the repair bill.

so as far as repairs and it being a trail truck, don't buy it unless you can afford to put some more money into it and get it running.

Ya aren't these things three tons? Wouldn't that equal 375 dollars in scrap? $25 to destroy a truck is definitely worth it
