here's a tip for eliminating the oil running down your sleeve -

use a large zip lock bag (gallon or half gallon) or a very small trash bag or a grocery bag.

break the filter loose with a wrench or muscle and get that first smidgen of a turn. slip the bag over the filter and spin it off. the bag will catch most of the oil. if you dispose of filters in the trash, just seal the zip lock and toss it.

Most auto parts stores will accept waste oil now as well. The ones around here take it for free. (which is a good thing, as I had almost ten gallons to dispose of....) Oil filters are worth a little bit as scrap metal.... which is better then having it buried in the land fill for a few hundred years.

Or you could clean them out and drink out of it. I've never tried this, but it sounds like a pretty good idea.

I just can't understand someone not enjoying the feel of hot oil running down their arm!

If you aren't getting the hot oil bath when you pull the filter, you are obviously doing it wrong.
