'99 Ram 1500 shut off and will not start
I drove my truck everyday for 5 years without any problems, well due to wife having medical problems etc. I neglected driving the truck for a few months it just sat in driveway.
I went out the other day and started it up it did take a few minutes to start it and it ran rough for around 10 minutes or so then it idled just like always, so I went inside to let it run for awhile but while inside the truck just shut itself off(like I turned the key off). It will not start at all.
It does turn over, it does have spark and fuel flow. I replaced the dist. cap and rotor no luck, I then replaced the crank sensor with no luck, checked fuses still no luck. Any suggestions???
I do have a remote start but the remote does work like normal

when I take off the cap on the fuel rail it spits gas up to the hood not sure if that is good but I think there is plenty of pressure.
I did also just replace the pickup coil and it still will not start, a friend recommended I get a new computer but not sure if that will fix my problem???

Find what you are missing. You aren't getting spark, or, you aren't getting injector pulse. (or, quite possibly, both.....) Verify 12 volts at the coil, and injectors. (you will only have it for about three seconds, unless someone is cranking the engine while you check.)

did it make any small noise before this?almost a short raspy sound almost like heat shield?but only last a min or two when u first start it in morning...sounds like bad timing chain.REAL EASY to replace on these trucks!!!!!cheap too...if sat for while it probably jumped timing when you fired it up..one more thing if you hold the gas peddle down will it start at all and run like **** then die if you release peddle ????idle air does this too.

I agree with Hey You and zman. Check to see what you have and do not have. Spark, and fuel pressure. Spraying up to the hood is not enough to tell. 20 pounds of pressure will do that, but it will not run on that low a pressure. Needs to be 45 to 50.
Check to verify that coil wiring is connected. (including the small connector for coil firing at the bottom - don't ask why I know to check that one!)

well got truck started today
it ended up being the coil, seems it was throwing out spark at random and we got lucky a few times we checked spark, the coil would quit throwing spark after it started around the cap...
Ended up with a new tune up though including new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, p/up coil and coil.
Now to figure out why that cap wont sit fully tight seems like the screws won't tighten right, and to fix a new problem while truck was sitting I think the water pump may be leaking.
Thanks for the help thus far.
