Default Tranny hardline blew. Close call! What kind of line for repair?

My tranny hardline blew while parking. I am am so lucky. Lost brake pressure and idle shot up. Almost hit the car in front of me. Is that normal when the lines goes? Vacuum loss.

What kind of replacement -cheap, line should I use to replace both rusted lines. Are the fittings on the factory line that go into the tranny standard fittings?

I do not understand the problem.

First, can you go to UerCP at the top, and edit your signature to put in the model of your truck, engine, tranny, etc. That would help us understand what vehicle we are talking about.

Was it a transmission cooling line that blew? If so, don't see how this would cause anything to go wrong with brakes. A brakeline would be different.

1999 ram 2500 4x4 5.9

I do not understand it either. I was pulling forward, brake pedal went to the floor. Truck rpms shot up. Turned off truck. Tranny hardline next to oilpan was dripping fluid and fluid was sprayed on the oil pan. Got back in truck. Brake pedal was at the floor. I pumped it once and it was back to full pressure. Started truck. RPMS shot up again and brake pedal hit the floor again. Brake fluid level looks normal.

Can I use steel line to replace tranny hardline?

if it is all rust i don't see why not. i guess it just depends on the tools and skills you have. if the line you are talking about is rubber it would most likely need to to be replaced since engine and trans twist but the rad ans cooler stay bolted to the body.

steel line from trans to the rubber hose needs to be replaced. I just replaced both fenders. Too bad it did not happen when the fenders were off. I would have had better access.

I think you have more than one problem. Trans line blowing will do nothing to the brakes.

Transmission cooling lines need to be steel lines. Lines are also secured to front of engine under PS pump so there is no flex between engine and transmission. Only rubber line is near radiator. Any major auto parts store should be able to get them (cvheaper than dealer).

Brakes are another issue. But need to find out what is happening there.

Or only one problem, the brake line blew and you have brake fluid on your trans line. If you have a pin sized hole, brake fluid will go everywhere. But you may not notice the level dropping in the master cylinder.

Is the fluid you are seeing red?

fluid is red. I will replace the trans lines with steel lines and see what happens. I may have a tiny leak in the rusty brake lines. I will replace those as well. Tomorrow should be 50degrees, Running out of warm weather. I need to move down south.
