4X4 went out, cad issue, diaphram, posiloc?
My 4X4 went out and upon dissasembly of the CAD i found the fork was unable to move all the way across the shaft. the vacuum lines work so i hammered on the fork to force it over however i only got it about 1/4 of the way. i ordered the posiloc cable system to bypass the vacuum system and it came in the mail yesterday. i plan to install it tomorrow but i wanted to know if anyone has any thoughts on issues i may run into tomorrow.
on a side note, looking forward to using my first set of air tools i picked up last week :P

yes, i agree. bigger is better. i got a 25gal air compressor dual piston that goes to 200psi for 30 bucks off craigs list. it was made in 1968 wich makes it much older than I.
i got a full set of impact sockets standard and metric for 100.00 and an air grinder/impact gun for 25 each. all snap-on

Make sure you plug the white or grey vac supply line going down the back of the motor. And when you remove the CAD, make sure the collar slides back and forth easily. If not, there may be burs on one or both of the shafts. There is also a composite bushing between the two shafts, make sure it's not loose.

use care to tie the cable away from the exhaust manifold with numerous wire ties. mine slipped over onto it and melted the crap out of of the outer casing but it still works.
take your time with the placement of the hole through the firewall. there's a heavy steel plate around the column you want to avoid.

i just finished installing it. when if i dont push the knobb in and screw it a bit it detects my 4X4 as on (dash light) and when i do engage the 4X4 it works however if i lay on the gas i hear a very fast high pitched whine, sounds like teeth on teeth so i think perhaps the collar is not moving over far enough. i installed the after market plate with the wire running from passenger side to driver side and the fork is placed with its off set over hanging the wider part of the housing cover.
on a sad note i was unable to use my air tools as we do not have an outlet in teh house that can run my compressor. its 110V at 40A while the house only has 20A

If the motor is dual wound (multiple voltage) is can be swithced to 220 v and it will be 20A - if you have 22v 20A available in the house.
