Default Auburn Gear LSD

So i just received my auburn gear lsd for my 9.25. I have a question about the way i got it. I have never ordered a locker or lsd unit before but it just seems like something isn't right here. SHould the unit be in plastic in side the box? It has a bunch of grease oozing out of it, and coated with tons of frayed up card board. It looks almost like something sitting on a shelf for a long time but instead of dust its card board inside and out. It was side ways in the box when i opened it also. Should i be concerned about it and calling the place i got it from?

No i received mine in the same exact condition. I did however clean it up lightly with some solvent. Never have had any problems.

I know I would just clean it up, to save the hassle of losing time and dealing with sending it back

So, you guys would just clean it up and call it good then? Its surprising that they would sell a fairly costly part and not atleast wrap it in plastic so stuff like this wouldn't happen.

thats what i thought too. it seemed to be some kind of sprayed on petroleum to keep it from rusting. Where all cardboard crap came from i dont know. just clean it up real good with some solvent and get all that coating and paper fibers out of it. I bought mine off craigslist halfway across the country brand new and thats exactly how mine came.
