Thumbs up 4x4 or 4WD is not working

HI on my 1997 Ram2500 with the 5.9 cummins diesel the 4wd do not work. I can shift into the 4WD positons and also the reduction works perfectly, but no 4WD. Did any of you specialists have an idea what it could be. What I can control myself and how? Thanks for your help

Are you sure the 4wd isn't working or the light on the dash just isn't lighting up? What have you done to confirm that the 4wd isn't working? My Dodge the light stopped working but the 4wd was fine.

Probably a vacuum issue. Verify you are getting vacuum to one of the ports at the CAD with the engine running.

well check the vac. first, you should have vac on one of the 2 lines when in 2wd and when u put it in 4wd it should shift the vac to the other line. if u dont have that, then take the lines off and clear them out. but if u do get the vac. but still no engagement, id check the vacuum switch on the t-case, see if its clogged or it might just be bad. thats a cheap part like 10 bucks. if that dont fix it then its gonna be the CAD. most likely the actuator. u can check that buy taking the cad out of the axle and see if the fork moves when u put it in 4wd.

Ok so that answers that question. There have been a ton of good ideas on here to try. You need to check for vacum like was said. Also look at your linkage to make sure that it is really shifting into 4wd.
