Question got a new muffler a few days later my truck is loud and lacking power.

ok my muffer was so rusted it had a big hole and was really loud and lacking power cause of it . so i went to a mono muffler shop and had a new muffller put on.now a 4 days later when i start my truck its kinda loud like i have a hole in my new muffler and everytime i start the truck I hear a rattling sound under the truck for a few seconds then it stops.they used 2 clamps on the new muffler and some kinda white stuff not sure what it is where the pipes come out out the muffler to seal it it really doesnt look like a weld to me.anway i plan on going back but what do you think they did wrong?I looked at the new muffler theres no hole in it so im guessing they knocked something lose when the put the new one on.also when the trucks just sitting in park and I step on the gas I hear the rattling sound and the loud like theres a hole someplace.

Start it up and get under it and see if you can tell where it's leaking. Put your hands the ends of the muffler and see if you feel an exhaust leak. Bang on the cat while it's off and cold and see if it rattles.

Clogged cat. Blown plenum. Smoked Pre-cat O2 sensor. Needs a tune up.

There's bound to be an exhaust leak somewhere if its loud...unless they put on a loud muffler. Crawl under it and check for leaks like mentioned above. Also, smack the catalytic converter with the engine off and see if it rattles. If it rattles, the cat is bad.

ok ill do it this weekend. The muffler they put on is the stock muffler i dont think that a ram sport has a loud stock muffler does it?ill hit the cat when the truck is off and cool and see if it rattles.it doesnt need a tune up i just did a full tune up on the truck 3 weeks ago so I know its not that.I know you say a bad cat rattles but so does a misaligned exhaust.

NEVER DO THIS EVER! You can damage a good cat this way and they aren't cheap.

It does sounds like it could be your cat, in fact it probably went bad because of the muffler shop probably beat you old muffler off. Cats take less shock than you would think for something on the underside of your vehicle.

Take it back and have them remove the muffler in front of you, if it has pieces of the cat in it make them pay for a new cat. If they can't can't weld it on they need to pay to have someone else do it.

They where replacing a original muffler with a OE replacement, That's the way the OE is attached minus the cement.
