I got my 1st 90's dodge!!!
96 ram, extended cab, 4x4, 318 auto, 165k miles $1000!!!!! It does need some things looked at for that price though. It goes into reverse frimly, and OD some times flutters a bit, so I'll have to address that. It needs front shocks for sure. The plenum needs to be looked at for sure, and I really want the cruise to work. The cruise light lights up, but when I go to set it, nothing happens. I will be reading up on this for sure.
A big thank you to those that bought trucks, and asked questions and to those that answered the questions on this forum. I read most of the threads and it helped me big time with buying this truck.

Check the vacuum line for the cruise, I think on yours it starts at the front of the throttle body, runs across the front of the engine, and then to the cruise module under the battery. It's one of the plastic lines, which tend to get brittle, and break as they age. Also, being RIGHT under the battery...... if the battery does something strange, the mess ends up on the cruise module and vacuum line, and the acid eats holes in either the line, the diaphragm, or both..... (I love my cruise control.....)
I love cruise as well. I am going to use the truck to haul quads to the sand dunes. and a lot of it is long straight stretches of road. I will definatly look at the vacuum lines as soon as the wife will let me. I was gone all afternoon while she was home with our sick toddler.
that was the problem when i got my 97. i bought the truck about 2 hours away from home and went to set the cruise, the light came on but wouldnt set. i was like damn.. checked the vacuum and the hard line had broken. replaced it with all new soft line from the intake to module. worked ever since.
they are great trucks. out of the 5 2nd gen dodges ive driven/owned not one has left me sitting, except when dads t case broke in 2....... and now that i think i disconnected the front driveshaft, and tied it to the frame and drove it home 140 miles

Its funny, everyone knows about the crank sensor issue right, no problems and suddenly truck won't start. I work at the emissions testing place for ohio and I see that happen with our trucks at least weekly people come in running fine then it won't start. Then they come back the next week saying it was the crank sensor haha.
this is my first 90's dodge, my dad has three right now, and my brother is on his second. Grandpa has 2 and my uncle still has his 95 he bought new. (my dad's is a 96 318 with almost 400,000 miles)
I will be posting pics. I got really lucky, sort of. I have been watching the for sale sections of CL with in 150 miles of my house for a few months, and I found that having cash on Sunday when most people can't get to it is a HUGE plus.
Also, I checked with my dealer today, and it still has two recall notices to be served, which clears up two things I need to fix with out me having to pay to do it or waste my time with, the hood latch, and the ignition wiring.

nice looking truck man, price was right too.i bought my '96 1500 4x4 new and have almost 300,000 km on the old girl.i throw about $1000.00 worth of parts at it each year and i dont mind a bit.gonna be a sad day in the plott hound household when it finally rusts away to nothing.
all these deals on trucks i feel like i got hosed... the previous owner didnt do **** to the truck for 18 months. they used it to pull snow mobiles. now i have it and i cant ****ing win. one of these days ill catch up on the maintenance OR drive it right through the guys house who sold it to me park that bitch in his living room! However i love my truck (my first as well) and gives me an oppertunity to learn what the hell im doing mechanic wise.
My first truck was a 96' and I loved it, might sound dumb but it seems like it was built better than my 99', more solid and not a spec of rust. My 99' is rustin out like it is its job... Anyway congrats on your purchase, hope it is a really good truck for ya!
