Spraying them with WD40 (water displacement formula #40) sometimes works as an oldschool temporary fix.... It willl tell you if the insulation is failing by sealing the hairline cracks...
It wont really do much if the problem is just poorly insulated low quality wires that are ran wrong though...

if the wires are real bad you can sometimes run the truck in the dark with the hood open and see a lightshow

Well day 4 and the transmission problem came back gah... Its never worked fine before ever in the last 14 months, but the last 4 days it has so whatever i did with the wires did something temporary.. I dunno.. was driving my brother to school, half way worked fine, the other half it started its old **** again. Then it started to spark knock again shortly after. Tried messing with the wires again but it didnt help.

What should I do now i wonder... uhg

Replace the wires, make sure they are all pushed down all the way

Yea I'll replace them and the coil, and rotor and cap when i get the money. If it drove fine for 4 days after i rerouted them then this problem has to be electrical somewhere.

For now i wrapped the wires in electrical tape and put some of that insulation convolute wrap on them since a couple of them are touching the hot valve covers since the reroute. Wires and all that junk are just really expensive for a v8

I know this is an older thread, but I found something similar on a front wheel drive car (mercury mistake V6) that caused the same issue. When it was pitch black at night, I raised the hood while it was running & I could SEE the electric current running through the spark plug wires, in a dramatic & obvious fashion, which of course occasionally grounded out on engine parts & caused crappy mileage. I replaced them & all was well again. My nephew wanted me to leave it like that because he thought it looked cool, but I won that argument. Kids.

That and the wd40 are old school tricks my dad taught me.
unfortunately even new rerouted wires have not helped my overdrive shudder though.... and I have no misfire codes... double checking wires and replacing plugs today even though the two I pulled looked new.

Wasn't there a TSB for TCC shudder?? I think the sonnax sure cure was designed for just such a problem.

yes... but mine never did it before the rebuild... took it back to the shop and the tranny guy thinks it may be an engine misfire even though I get no codes...I have a rough idle when cold so I'm ruling that out first...
here's the interesting thing though.... I noticed my tranmission fluid level dropped since having it rebuilt 100 miles ago just a tad so I bought some of the "lude guard" friction modifier that monty c recommends... (transmission shop said he used standard "ATF" fluild with an additive to make it aft4 comparable)... Well since I added the additive my shudder has greatly been reduced? in the 1 or 2 miles test drive I did afterwards last night? I dont know if this is beacuse the additive is allowing the mis to be masked by not allowing the torque converter to lock up as hard or if in fact my issues really are tranny related.
the truck has been sitting for months before the rebuild so I cant rule out a fouled out cylinder at this point yet.
I just hope its not a cracked head since I seem to have coolant slowly disappearing as well... guess I'll have a better idea by looking at the plug wear today.

It the shudder is due to an engine related miss, it will be most pronounced right about 45 mph, when the trans wants to shift into O/D, and lock up the TCC. Even a single cylinder missing will give you a VERY noticeable shudder.
