Fixed my transmission shuddering.. Guess what it was.. lol
Some of you know my Jeep with the 5.9 magnum and 46re was having issues with the transmission. Basicly since i got it 14 months ago, everytime it shifts from 3rd to OD it would thud/rumble or shudder throughout the vehicle. I could feal it in the steering wheel, and hear it shake the back hatch ect.
I did all the usuall change the fluid and filter, adjust the tv cable. People said it was a clogged solenoid but since i was tight on cash all year i couldnt drop the pan again and replace them. So i drove it for over ay ear and put around 8k miles on it with it doing this every 3rd-od shift.. It never slipped or got worse or better.
2 days ago on the Jeepforums.com website someone posted a TSB talking about spark plug re-routing, as the plug wires on some vehicles were causing missfire, spark knock, and transmission issues.
So i looked at my wires and they were all tangled on one another, crisscrossed and touching everywhere. So i re-did all the wires and moved them away from one another like the TSB said to do.
Since i have done this i havent had anymore shudder. Its been shifting smoothly for 2 days now. It has never done this b4 in 14 months. Im not sure what the wires were doing, causing issues with the transmission or maybe causing a missfire during that shift. Or something else... but its fixed now and my transmission shifts so smooth from 3-od i barely notice it..
You dont know how happy i am.
This was the TSB

Most noticeable to most, including myself was the misfire. And it sometimes throws a misfore code (can't remember the code numbers). I have read some threads where it showed up with a tranny problem as well like your did.
Glad it was something easy to fix (once you found it) instead of a rebuild on the tranny!

fyi the governor soleniod doesnt require any $ to clean the screen on it..they plug up and it usually makes the transmission wait too long befor shifting out of second gear...
Glad you got your issues taken care of...I recently started getting the misfire codes myself but my tranny has failed recently so its on the back burner.... This makes me wish my tranny issues were the same as yours were.
it makes sense, since the crossed plug wires would generate electrical noise in the system.... it could even effect radio reception

Well my friend was having spark knock and he has high quality wires, brand new and after this TSB was posted he untangled the wires and followed what the TSB said to do and the problem went away. My next thing was going to be to get new wires, but after what he said im wondering if new wires would even do anything see'ing as spark plug wires can get pretty damn expensive.
I wonder if wrapping them in alluminum foil tape would help

There really isn't anything you can wrap them with that will help, considering the voltages involved..... you are better off getting a quality set of wires, and then routing them correctly.
At one time, there were "correct-a-cap" dist caps available for GM small-blocks, that had the wires leaving the dist cap in the same order the cylinders were on the engine. (number one was on the drivers front, 2 was on the passenger front, etc.) With one of those, you didn't have to cross ANY of your plug wires. That was kinda nice, and reduced a lot of the inductive cross-firing problems folks would have with high output coils. I haven't seen anything like that for the magnums though..... too bad.
