i dunno what the numbers are, but i would say go ahead and do the hs 1.7 first and maybe the airgap later. everything i have read has pointed to the 1.7rr being the best bang for your buck 2nd to an SCT which you already have.
just my .02$ and i havent done either one but planning on it soon.

300hp at the crank or the wheels? At the crank that's not too unrealistic but it's gonna take a bit more than you're thinking to get there. You're going to need a cam and will probably sacrifice some low end to reach your goal, to get more HP you need to carry the torque higher into the RPMs, so you may want a higher stall convertor too. The stock heads are a big restriction, too.
Just a guess, but I'm thinking 260ish at the crank.

I think you have the right idea to get there but I think I would start with the rockers and cam, throttle body, and better flowing exhaust. With the engine being an air pump, that just seems to be the way to start with as a baseline. If you are wanting to go the bolt on route. Otherwise no replacement for displacement.

find a place with a dyno that runs on your wheels. I know when I built my Charger's engine, I have a place close to me, and if I added something, or tried something out, I would run over there and see how much good it did. I found that going there when the guys were bored got me some free help and they let me try a few things out to dial the engine in more.

well i think im gonna do this all together. im gonna get the 1.7s, f1, TB, headers. the rest of my exhaust has been done. ill see what that stuff gets me. then down the road i could throw in the cam. and i forgot to say, i lookin to get the 300hp at the crank, at the wheels would be awesome but i knew that was a long shot.
